Things to do with your dog around Lac-Mégantic
The region has plenty to offer owners of active dogs.
- Swimming from the chalet: the private docks at Les Perséides and Le Grand Duc let dogs swim straight from the property
- Hiking Mont Gosford: leashed dogs are allowed on the ZEC Louise-Gosford trails; about 500 m of elevation gain for a view stretching to Vermont and Maine
- Domaine des Appalaches trails: a forest network reached from the Notre-Dame-des-Bois sector, well suited to long walks
- Rural and forest roads: the country roads of the MRC Le Granit see little traffic and work well for daily outings
Note: in Mont-Mégantic National Park, dogs are only admitted in certain designated sectors. Check the conditions on the Sépaq website before planning an outing in the park.

Is there an extra fee for bringing a dog?
Yes, an additional pet fee applies to the chalets in this selection. The exact amount is confirmed during the online booking or on request from the Forēssence team. A security deposit is also held on arrival and released on departure if no damage is found in the chalet or on the grounds.
How many dogs are allowed per stay?
It depends on the property. Les Perséides accepts up to 2 dogs per stay — a number that covers every animal present for the duration of the rental — and for the other chalets it is confirmed at booking. If you are travelling with more than 2 dogs, contact the Forēssence team before booking to check whether an exception can be granted, subject to availability and the owner’s conditions.
Are the grounds fenced or secured for pets?
None of the grounds in the selection are fenced. Those at Les Perséides, for instance, are laid out on three wooded levels running straight down to Lac Mégantic. For animals that tend to wander or are not used to open natural spaces by a lake, a leash is recommended, especially near the dock and the shoreline. A dog used to wide open spaces will feel very much at home.
Are there breed or size restrictions?
No breed or size restriction is stated for the chalets in this selection. If you have a large animal, or a breed that may raise questions, we recommend mentioning it when booking so the owner can confirm before you finalize your stay in the Lac-Mégantic region.
